Dr. Sherryl Shipes, DO, American Board of Family Medicine Board Certified doctor specializing in cosmetic and aesthetic full body rejuvenation, and member in good standing with the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, is North Texas’ leader in advanced full body rejuvenation including cutting edge techniques for application of botulinum toxin products. Frown lines form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions cause lasting frown lines. Neurotoxins, such as XEOMIN®, are prescription medications that block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions. Your frown lines are softened with Xeomin. Now that Xeomin is available and FDA approved, Dr. Shipes can use it both on-label and off-label to treat the same facial lines treated by Botox and Dysport, including frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. Xeomin has no additives (unlike Allergan’s Botox Cosmetic, which has a “carrier protein”), just pure botulinum toxin type A. This means that there is less risk of developing antibodies against Xeomin than other available neurotoxins. The body develops antibodies in response to a foreign invader and this is measurable. In theory, antibodies could prevent a neurotoxin from having its desired effects. The effects of Xeomin occur within 3-5 days, and the results last from three to six months, making it comparable to Allergan’s Botox Cosmetic in terms of both onset and duration of action.

“As a teacher in an inner city school for troubled teens you wouldn’t think I’d be too worried about my looks. But it helps to look calm and relaxed when you are dealing with these kids. My frown lines gave me a look of anger and disapproval. Not helpful when you’re trying to communicate, encourage and guide a youth towards better choices. XEOMIN® reduced my frown lines and in a sense “calmed me down”. I look more approachable and in this job that's very important.”
